Watersmith Headed For The Moon

We’re excited to share that Watersmith Guild has been awarded a Remake Learning Moonshot Grant in support of Aqua Lab Armada—a new initiative designed to amplify high school students’ voices in changemaking across Pittsburgh.

At Watersmith Guild, we’ve long been inspired by the creativity, curiosity, and drive that young people bring to our filmmaking, environmental stewardship, and outdoor adventure programs. Aqua Lab Armada builds on that foundation, creating space for high school students to step into leadership as advocates for issues that matter most to them.

Through the program, students will design and lead their own advocacy projects centered on social and environmental justice topics of their choosing. By combining community-based research, collaboration with local organizations, and the power of digital storytelling, these projects will bring bold, youth-driven visions for change to life.

Aqua Lab Armada also deepens youth leadership within our organization. High school participants will not only develop their own ideas—they’ll mentor the next generation. As part of the program, Armada students will guide middle schoolers through Aqua Lab Adventures, a hands-on microplastics survey of local waterways conducted by paddleboard. This layered approach creates a powerful cycle of learning, mentorship, and impact.

The Remake Learning Moonshot Grant supports innovative, future-focused ideas that have the potential to transform learning and empower young people. Their bold investment allows us to imagine—and actively build—a future where youth are leading the charge in social and environmental justice.

We’re just getting started. Stay tuned to follow the journey and impact of Aqua Lab Armada’s high school ambassadors on our website, Instagram, and YouTube.
