FCVC welcomes you to grab a drink and listen to Ian Smith, executive director of the Watersmith Guild, a paddleboarding organization that combines recreation, conservation, and art. Hear about his experiences last summer with youth on French Creek!

The Bottle Works and Penguin Court, a preserve of Brandywine Conservancy, present the 7th annual family friendly, and completely free, event bringing 20+ nature and/or conservation-based vendors to the Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center in Johnstown, PA for a nature expo. Vendors will have information to educate community participants on outdoor recreation opportunities in our region, sustainable ways to participate, environmental conservation, and more!

Watersmith Guild Founder and Director, Ian Smith, has been selected as the Keynote Speaker at the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Educators Annual Conference. The conference will take place at the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie, PA from March 10th - 12th, 2025.

Watersmith Guild's founder and director, Ian Smith, will be presenting at the North American Association for Environmental Education’s annual conference. The presentation will discuss the connections made between communities through programs including First Waves and Aqua Lab Adventures.

The Watersmith Guild's Director and environmental education specialists will be presenting our work on citizen science in the Ohio River Basin at the Ohio River Basin Alliance Summit.  Stop by the interactive tabling session to learn more about how we integrate water quality monitoring, microplastics surveys, and macroinvertebrate surveys into our environmental education programs.  The weekend will be packed with other amazing presentations and field trips from across the Ohio River Basin, be sure to register to attend the event.

Join us to celebrate 10 amazing years of First Waves programs with a video recap in conjunction with the Stonycreek Rendezvous! The film will start when the sun goes down as a brief intermission of all the great live music, food, and more that takes place at this amazing event hosted by the Benscreek Canoe Club

Join us for a Watersmith Guild Stewardship Event and First Waves Workshop in conjunction with the Stonycreek Rendezvous! The morning session (10:00am – noon) will include a tree planting and conservation mini-hike along the Stonycreek River in Ferndale! The afternoon session (2:00pm – 4:00pm) will include a downstream stewardship paddle leaving from Greenhouse Park and ending 2-miles downstream at the Coal Tubin shop. The event will also provide training for First Waves volunteers and mentors. You’re welcome to provide your own gear, however, we will have boards, rafts, and equipment available as needed!
